Odd, VERY ODD
Part of several days this week I have worked and studied to gain knowledge, pass tests and prepare to become a school bus driver although I do not have a route. This is not and, should not be surprising, seeing the valuable cargo on these buses. A good school bus driver should be properly trained.
The odd part is that I have been a candidate in 3 federal elections, and that process was so very easy--anyone could do it, including a caveman, if:
for United States Senate: you are 30 years
of age, a citizen of the United States for nine
years, and an inhabitant of the state.
for the House of Representatives: you
must be 25 years of age and a citizen for 7
years and an inhabitant of the state.
That’s it, plus, give the state party organization a couple hundered bucks or so.
It’s nice to have a process whereby anyone could represent you in Congress, or is it?
I don’t mind having to jump through multiple hoops to drive a school bus. Also, the State of Mississippi appears to be running a tight ship on earning your license.
However, if you are planning to run for Congress there is one gaint hoop you should know about before you file. To be successful you will have to jump as high and dig as low as the National Political Parties want you to.
How about them apples. Good luck with it.

SAD AND TRUE
The Truth-in-Lending Law must have helped some. Now we need a Truth-in-Campaign Law. Geeez. have ya seen the ads for Governor of Tennessee? Somebodys’ tongues are on the loose!
I suppose there isn’t much that can be done about this, but the guy who announces that God is this and that and "the center of the universe."
Now there is a vote getting line...but he probably hasn’t done much on his own or even with God’s help to talk about.
I believe if you have the right reputation all that is needed to be said is, "I’d do my best."
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
ALL OPTIONS ARE OPEN
Have you ever heard watch what you say? I may be finished driving a big rig truck, I sure thought I never would again.
However, when the Highway Patrol officer told me I could still renew my CDL, it ran through my mind that, hey, who knows what the next day will bring.
Afterwards I thought about the many long nights driving across states and talking to fellows who could run this nation a hell of a lot better than it is being run now.
AND THAT’S A FACT.

WHAT DID YOU SAY?
Why should President Obama not extend the tax cuts to the wealthy? What did he say he was going to do during the campaign. There were no maybes or ifs.
He is already far from being consistent. Now’s his chance to repair some integrity. Besides, it is the right and fair thing to do under the circumstances.
Again, just as Democrats did Bush, Sr. and likewise others have had it done to them, Republicans and Wall Streeters are going to attempt to pin Mr. Obama in a corner to extend the tax cuts.

WHAT IS MOST IMPORTANT?
If football was the most important thing in my life, I might not have thought twice about Ole Miss bringing in the QB that has had problems with the law.
I’ve been through a similiar thing before where athletes were being used and games were bet on. How different is this when the primary concern is winning a game. It is a game.
Normally college teams have very good former high school players at other positions...like in the secondary. Need depth? Now’s the time to look for it in places besides just the roster.

The Sweetest
This is the time of year when the fig harvest arrives in my mom’s fig bush. This year is the best crop we have ever seen.
Nothing was done differently on our part. It must have just been time.

TWO BETTER THAN ONE
Once again our governor is playing partisan politics in asking AG Jim Hood to not pursue law suits on behalf of Mississippi citizens against British Petroleum. It just never stops does it.
Without knowing a snap about the courts’ procedures, wouldn’t you agree that it is most likely that claims against BP would have better chances on two fronts rather than one.
It appears Governor Barbour is gonna get what he wants from BP, and you had better look out for yourself.

"DAMN, I FEEL GOOD TODAY"
Despite the layers of everyday life and, like many of you, living mainly by faith--I feel good tonight. The quote is near what the young pitcher said about how he felt during the game he pitched that was a near perfect game. You recall it was spoiled by a bad call.
What I had hoped might became a voice and a light when the website began, has actually resulted in my finding my voice... and more.
As of tonight, the final day for what we do here at WJJS Co.’s website will be on or before August 10th. This could change.
It will be nice when America finds its groove, and there are no bad calls.

NOTHING BUT BLAME
We read that Obama says the oppostition party is only avoiding the issues, and the Democrats reportedly intend to say the Republicans are THE TEA PARTY.
So, if it’s all true, what do they intend to do about all our problems? In my estimation we are in the lowest state we have ever been for want of leadership.
It is sickening and getting worse by the day.
Bottom line, if there isn’t another avenue soon we are sunk.

ENOUGH MISTAKES TO GO AROUND
Think of where the blame comes from and goes. A Prime Example--labor blames management and manaagement blames labor.
Today a fellow in a van knocked on our neighbor’s door and said, "Here’s your newpaper." Thanks. You know we usually get these through the mail. The paper leaves them and the Post Office delivers. "OH! I bet that is what I’m suppose to do...they just said go to Hickory Flat and deliver ’em. I only a temp."
Communication. Be certain you have their attention first. Both ways...all ways.

ARE WE LEAVING OUR CHILDREN BETTER OFF?
Housing, medical, drug and transportation prices are making it hard on what was once a robust economy. One of the major efforts must be a controlled deinflation to bring fairness back into the system.
For example, buyers remain reluctant, in part, to buy a car or truck because who knows when the $10,000 price deductions will roll around or increase. Makers should make these deductions permanent off the list (window) price.

Four shades of Dark
This goes to show that often the chase is more jubilate than the catch. Former Gov. Blagojevich was impossible to avoid for weeks while charges swirled around him.
Now that he trail has been going on, very little is being said...not that it is missed.
The media is so fickled.

THE DARKER SIDE
During my days at Ole Miss the football team was mostly from Mississippi. That has changed to about 75-80% being from out of state. That’s ok.
If I was going into war I would want dozens of the meanest, most bad "dirty" soldiers going with me. However, I don’t quite understand Ole Miss getting excited about the availability of a QB that has both good gridiron records but would also bring records of the other kind too.
Oh, I believe in forgiveness. It would be different if the young man had already sat out a year and behaved. It seems we have seen a preponderance of football players coming and going in the pass couple of years.
Two star QBs in the pass decade have had boys of all ages wear their numbers, 10 &4, all across our state and elsewhere.
I for one could accept this young man into the fold on one condition: Coach Nutt allow him to live with him an entire year.
There wouldn’t be anything blind about it.

EXPECTATIONS ARE GREAT
There may be times when a newspaper could claim that it ran out of room but not this time. However, it could be that what we read today was the end of the story which would make it extremely unfortunate and unfair.
The story on page 5A of Friday’s Daily Journal ended with an unsubstantiated claim by an aide of Congressman Travis Childers stating that candidate Alan Nunnelee had made a hypocritical remark. The story ended there. The next inch and one-half was a self-adveritising promotion by the paper. There is no reason the Childers’ aide could not have detailed the hypocrisy he was referring to and perhaps he did but the paper did not print it. There is also the possibility that the paper did not pursue the claim. Either way we should know why the claim was made.
Voters and citizens should not let campaigns off the hook when they accuse the other camp, and likewise, neither should the media.
The plain and clear road to lucid fairness is for this story to play out and not leave readers hanging.

BANKING IS COMPLICATED
LIFE SHOULDN’T BE
Financial reform...what will it consist of...more mail...more slogans...more tricks...even less contact with your banker...more interest?
Time will tell, but the big banks didn’t stop lobbying all of a sudden for nothing.
A posterior note: "Europe’s dirty secret is
that its banking sector is sicker
than Wall Street."
